Multi-Sensor IIoT System for Monitoring Assets for Product Leaks
18th Annual Pipeline Technology Conference Paper
Direct-C Adrian Banica and Stephen Edmondson prepared a 12-page paper for the 18th annual Pipeline Technology Conference (PTC) held in Berlin, Germany. Adrian presented at the conference on May 9th, 2023, after being selected from among many conference submissions. In this paper, Direct-C’s leak detection systems (LDS) are explained, covering each major component in-depth.
Starting with a high-level overview of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) network, this paper details each individual platform within the IIoT network and how uninterrupted communication is achieved. The IIoT system is what allows operators ease-of-installation, 24/7 automated monitoring and the ability to receive alerts remotely.
The authors then present research findings and data collected from the research and product testing stages of development. Testing in this report includes the nanocomposite sensors’ reaction times with different liquid hydrocarbons including pentane, diesel, crude oil and motor oil.
Further, the data from multifunctional and environmental sensors is also presented. This includes sensitivity and reaction times to produced water, clear water or rainwater, and low-temperature changes.
